Why the Blog

How This Blog Came to Be (If You’re Bored…Read on…)

For several years now, I’ve found myself needing to type out things the Lord has taught me. A little while into that, I was encouraged to share those words. It is often through the words we share with others that the Lord speaks, after all.

So began my first blog: a mix of recipes and faith-based writing. Over time, it grew and needed to be redone. The blog was reborn as Taste and Truth. Skipping a few months ahead, I found myself convicted that my blog focused very much on relating to God and knowing His Word but not enough on how to live out His Word.

A second blog was born. Entitled Believing Bride, this blog was intended to examine living out God’s Word in marriage.

I wrote. And wrote. And within a few months of conversing with friends, reading comments, and listening to the Lord for topics it became apparent that all I was taught to write there encompassed much more than marriage and love. I held on anyway, bending a sentence here or there to justify each post as marriage-related (forgive me.)

Then, someone asked me a great question:

“What is your blog about?”

Uhmmmm….far too long a list of meandering ideas and explanations of how the Lord taught me things and convicted me to share lessons….the Bible? Christian living? Life, love, and the pursuit of His will?

The wheels began to turn. I stopped bending sentences and justifying my topics. When it comes down to it, all of my writing can be nestled under Matthew 22:37-39:

‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’.”

First and Second is the final blog for the foreseeable future. It’s based on unifying something in words that the Lord daily has to work to unify in me and you: the two greatest commandments He gives.

It is through the first command that we are able to righteously, humbly, and effectively complete the second command. Through the second command, we get to live out and demonstrate the first.

My prayer is that through this blog, all who know or are just now encountering Christ will be blessed by the unity of His every command and His gracious enabling us to fulfill that which seems impossible, but is possible in Him: true, genuine, unconditional love. Both for the Lord and for His people.

Praise Him!
